Teak is like no other wood on earth. It is soft and supple like warm
earth. But its skin is deceiving, because beyond its surface is a weave
of fiber that gathers its strength from a timeless formula that only nature
could create.
A wood so strong that sailors used it as the hulls for mighty ships.
Where does it find these roots? It finds them deep in the rich earth of the
continents of Asia and Africa. An earth that provides the rich organic
environment for a tree which thrives in its tropical surroundings. A tree which
know no brethren because it has found a unique way to recover natural
oils and silica found deep in the earth and bring them alive in a warm and
supple wood like no other.
Originally from the deep forests of Burma, cuttings of these trees were
brought to Indonesia where the fertile soil and warm sun nurtured a new
life to these trees. Starting in the 1600's. groves of teak were planted in
open pastures set aside for new plantations that would provide the resources
for a growing Eastern world. As time passed, these plantations became models
for environmentally sustainable woods.
Environmentally sustainable because the fact that all of the trees came were
non-indigenous assuring that if it came from Indonesia, you could rest assured
it was not an old growth tree, whose legacy belonged to the earth.
Find your roots in the beauty of teak.
